Interview with Cheryl Holloway

Interview with Cheryl Holloway

Thank you, Cheryl, for talking to me today.

C. A., I would like to thank you for having me on your blog.

What made you want to become a writer?

CH: I think, I was born a writer, because I’ve been writing since I was a small child. I have always wanted to write stories. I began reading books when I was three years old and my mother bought me Golden Books once a week. I wanted more books, so I began writing my own little stories to entertain myself and eventually, my brother.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

CH: I have been writing for many years, now. My writing varies from articles, informational pieces, poetry, books, short stories and magazines. You name it and I can write it. I have put a great deal of time in learning my craft over the years. I am exceedingly passionate about writing. I write in several genres, but mostly romance.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

CH: I try to be original. I write unique stories that are off the beaten path.

How do you select the names of your characters?

CH: I try to pick popular names from a baby book during that time period or era. However, in my latest book that I’m writing, all of the names are palindrome. I dedicated the book to a friend whose nickname is palindrome. It was a fun twist for me.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

CH: I read all of my reviews and try to communicate with my readers/fans. If a reviewer leaves an email address or I recognize their name as a subscriber, I will contact the person and thank him/her for leaving a review. It is so hard to get people to leave reviews. I appreciate them whether the review is good or bad. I’ve only had two reviews that I was really concerned about. One lady gave me two stars because she didn’t like the ending, but she said that the book was very well-written. One other lady was jealous of how many books I had published and gave me two stars because she has a Ph.D and thinks I need to take her writing class. I look at it like this, you can’t please everybody.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

CH: Most of my characters are based on real-life events and I tweak the story with my personal touch and/or imagination. I like happy endings, but sometimes, like life, you have to have a different ending. I wrote the book, The Proposal: A Leap of Faith. And it has a different ending. Some readers like it, while others don’t. But it is an interesting love story based on real-life events. I had to use my imagination to change the story slightly from real-life, as a result, it has been my most controversial book, yet.

Could you tell us a bit about your most recent book and why it is a must-read?

CH: My latest book, Love Makes the Ride Worthwhile (The Love Struggle Series Book 1),

is a romance written from a male point of view. Bob holds nothing back in this intriguing love story and his attempt to marry, Ava, the woman of his dreams. So, if you’re looking for a good laugh and a window into the mind of a male, this is the book for you. Book 1 in the two-book series should be released in late May.

What’s the strangest thing you have ever had to research online for your book?

CH: In my book, A Sisterhood of Women Living Life: A Short Story Collection Book 1, one of the stories is about a young lady who had twins with different fathers. I thought it was impossible, until I did my research. It is rare, but it is very possible. I try to write relevant stories for my readers.

What do your fans mean to you?

CH: My fans mean the world to me. I could not continue to be a writer without them! And I listen to what they have to say and what they want me to write in the future. Today, I have a special offer for your readers.
